Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is an AMMOS Tool?

A piece of software or a package of AMMOS core software that is adapted to a project per the missions specific requirements.

What is an AMMOS Service

A functionality that is provided by AMMOS personnel to a project. The project uses MGSS expertise rather than obtaining and using the tools directly.

Who Can Use AMMOS?

AMMOS Tools and Services are available to any NASA-sponsored flight project or experiment investigation. Non-NASA flight projects or experiment investigations, whether US or not, may also take advantage of AMMOS capabilities, provided they have an agreement to that effect with NASA headquarters.

Can I Use Only Parts of the AMMOS?

Missions can choose the AMMOS multimission functions and/or mission-specific adaptations in unique combinations that meet their specific needs. Prince is uniquely determined according to the components selected and driven by how much mission-specific adaptation requested for multimission core functions.

How is AMMOS Developed or Modified?

The AMMOS is a NASA product. It consists of components (tools and services) contributed and used by all NASA centers.
AMMOS implementation and maintenance is managed by the Multimission Ground System and Services Office (MGSS) at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) established by the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). The MGSS is a NASA Program who's charter is to support all NASA missions and provide Mission Operations System (MOS) solutions at reduced overall cost and risk, and to improve and refine ground system tools and services to meet the challenges of future NASA Missions.
